A tribute to Michael Law 2022 Award Recipient Philip Shine
This show is a special tribute to former and first Bay FM station manager Philip Shine.
Philip Shine joined Bay FM in 2018 and guided the station through a tumultuous four years, including bush fires, a pandemic and the 2022 Northern Rivers flood and landslide disasters.
His contributions to the small regional station include significant improvements to programming as well as a new era of digitisation, local news production and effective management.
But long before he led Bay FM, Philip Shine advanced Australia’s community broadcasting sector through his work managing stations in Sydney and at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.
His legacy may be heard through Bay FM’s airwaves, national community radio news and current affairs service The Wire, and any time you hear digital community radio in Australia.
Philip Shine received the prestigious CBAA Michael Law lifetime achievement award in 2022, prompting a collection of interviews with some of his mentors and former colleages.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Byron Shire on the 25th of September, 2024.
This tribute revisits interviews first broadcast two years ago, including some previously unaired content and ‘out-takes’, along with special acknowledgments made by other Bay FM presenters in the days following his death and music he loved.
