Our guest today is a gentleman who has been a Ballina Shire and Byron Shire resident for most of his long life.

Bill Silvester was instrumental in having the Julian Rocks Aquatic Reserve off Cape Byron gazetted in 1982, and I suggest the 2002 declaration of the 37-km long Cape Byron Marine Park - from the Brunswick River to Lennox Head - would not have occurred without his contribution.

He has self-published a couple of beautifully presented books, “”Down Under Magic: The Early Days of Skin and SCUBA Diving” and “Down Under Byron: The Protection of Byron Bay's Underwater Paradise”.
