The Australian share market finished Friday slightly lower as the mining sector declined, offsetting gains in energy and utilities. With volumes lighter than usual, investors remained hesitant amid Middle East tensions and upcoming US earnings season. Next week brings Australian jobs data, quarterly updates from major miners and energy producers, and results from tech giants Tesla and Alphabet.

Steve Daghlian and Laura Besarati are Market Analysts at CommSec. Each episode, they break down the day's market movements and explain what the numbers really mean.
