One Near East Side grande dame is receiving a 60th birthday makeover. With a wave of new tenants, the Park Towers condominium building is getting a freshening up, with new mechanics, a new roof, and most importantly, stylish new condominiums. Built in 1961, Park Towers followed the first wave of East Broad Street's grand apartment buildings, including the Broadwin (1924), Cambridge Arms (1928), and Royal York (1938). As the years passed, though, Park Towers, like many of its East Broad Street neighbors, fell into disrepair. In 1983, the building was converted into condominiums, many of which ended up being rented out or falling into foreclosure. But those who have hung in for the tough times have been rewarded with a campaign to update the building.
