Pendleton Assistant City Manager Chuck Byram and Councilmember Linda Neuman recap the April 7 Pendleton City Council meeting. Byram highlights the swearing in of Pendleton Police Chief Tony Nelson and Lt. Tyler Reddington. Neuman then hightlights the report from the Arts Commission and talks about the art sites in town, plus talks about the art inventory on the city's website. Byram also talks about the first reading amending a previous ordinance to create and provide responsibilities of an Historic Preservation Commission. He also explains the approval of three percent rate increase for Pendleton Sanitary Service and to charge a mandatory fee for curbside comingled recycling. Also address is street repair on North Main Street and the marketing contract for the airport and UAS range. The conversation ends with Neuman talking why she got involved with the city council and Byram's transition from being the former police chief to the new assistant city manager.

Nelson then talks about one thing he's most eager to change or refine now that he's chief. Nelson also share what he believe's will be one community sentiment he'll look back at in a year to determine if his first year as chief was a success. Reddington then addresses staffing and retention as the PPD navigates the current labor market to ensure there's enough boots on the ground. Nelson then talks about the one crime that's taking up a significant portion of the department's time. As Pendleton is a hub for unmanned aircraft systems, Reddington talks about how the PPD is utilizing drone technology.
