We've gotten excellent podcast for Yes, we've got another conference preview edition. We're diving in on the NEEC today. It is a fun conference and one that looks a little bit different this year than it as in past years. We're going to be talking about that in segment number two with Ryan Peters. He's originally a sacred Art grade, but unfortunately they are not going to be previewed in this podcast because they're now part of the metro around Lantic. But he is stuck with the conference. He does such amazing work taking a look at it. So we're gonna be taking a look at these nine teams, he nooks and crannies of it all, and we're gonna be diving in on that in segment number two. Here in the first segment, I'm gonna be giving you guys the just styles of play that we see in the NEEC couple with as well the betting trends that we've been seeing in the NEEC over the last few seasons. And then in the final segment, gonna get you guys my projector or finished for this wonderful conference. If you do have a question comment segment of you what I have be for this podcast? And due to the fact that I'm doing a conference preview today, that means that the last forty eight hours of college basketball news and notes that's going to be done tomorrow. And if it's not done tomorrow, because I might be doing my Patrioty conference preview tomorrow's ball one of the last seventy two hours of college basketball news and notes that'll be done over the weekend to end the weekend. So you've got you guys all covered with in regards to that, and let's take a look at a conference set is one of the most interesting in all of college basketball in terms of style of playing. In terms of the overall temple, you've got some of the fastest teams in all of college basketball when it comes the NEC and you've got some very low and slow teams. You've seen quite a few teams come up from the Division two level and have success right away. Son Ill unfortunately has been not one of those teams, and they've got a very mid temple five to them. Last year they were under fifty second in the country in terms of total possessions per game. Saint Francis and Pennsylvania and Wagner, these were two of these slower teams in all of college basketball. Saint Francis Tour ninety sixth in terms of total possessions per game. Wagner they always play slow, they always play very defense oriented, three hundred and sixtieth in all of college basketball terms of total possessions per game. And then when you take a look at the team like Fahley Dickinson, they were sixteenth in the country terms of total possessions per game. Long Island has been a team that has played pretty up tempo as well under the tutelage of Rod Strickland. They were fifty sixth last year in terms of total possessions. Praame even faster in season number one. Now you've got a team in Chicago State. They actually have their coach and Gerald Gillion going on over to Long Island and we'll see if some of that rubs off on that program. As Chicago State one of the newcomers for the NEC two und ninety second in terms of total possessions per game, and they had a few other teams from there that were a little bit more mid tempo, but always interesting to be able to take a look at on that front. Offense certainly is a little bit lacking in this conference, and rebounding, I think is really the biggest thing that you want to be diving in on for the NEC as well. You've got a lot of teams that they're going to be looking to fortify themselves on the glass. You saw this last season that there were just a lot of teams that didn't necessarily have a lot of size and then led to them having some issues. Although I will say the team that was really won the most rock solid in the conference last season, Merrimick. They now go to the Metro Atlantic. They were in terms of rebound rate last year three hundred and fifty fourth in the country, and yet they were still just perfectly fine. So that's something that you do want to be taking note of now the team that was next worst in terms of the rebound rate. So no, they were not perfectly fine. It was a lesson savory season for them. But you'll notice that a lot of teams they just don't have a lot of size when it comes to this conference, so it becomes all about which teams are able to execute their offenses and which teams are just able to hit their shots in general. As you saw La moin last season ranked three Air twenty first in the country in terms of their overall rebound rate. Sacred Art once again team that leaves the conference. They were three Air twelfth in the country in terms of rebound rate. Fairly they can send three aronds sixth in the country Chicago State to our ninety fourth, So you can expect to see a lot of teams that are going to have their issues on the glass, and then it becomes all right, which team is going to be able to go out there hit a few three says in terms of the three point shooting percentage of this conference, you saw a team Lael Lamoyne be able to light it up from three point range. You saw them being able to elevate. As result, they go nine to five within the conference. They take some very tremendous rides forward and your number one Chicago State. They come in as the worst three point shooting team from the season ago three and thirty third in all of college basketball in terms of their overall three point shooting percent In LU, they're going to be looking to build off of the fact that they were just three in sixteenth in the country in terms of their three point shooting percentage. But when you've got to eat a sing style that is able to really run the conference, that I think is very big. Because Merrimack last year three are and thirteenth in the country in terms of their three point shooting percentage. As we know, they were oh so perfectly fine. Meanwhile, Fairley Dickinson flying down to two hundred and eighty fourth in the country in terms of their three point shooting percente was a little bit more topsy turvy for them, and you do have a team in Mercy hears it's going to be coming into the conference from the Division two level. They gave up less than sixty seven points per game at the Division two level. Now they went fifteen and sixteen overall. So we don't have any betting trends with regards to them, but certainly that is going to be adding a little bit of a different dynamic to this conference as well. And when it comes to the totals that we've been seeing in the NEC over last few seasons, it has been quite a bit of fascination in Chicago State was a little bit more of an under team the last few seasons, and you may had a lot of money betting the under in the NEC last year Sigurdard and Fairley Dickinson. They both went sixteen and four team to the over. Every other team played at least fifty five percent of their games to the under, with LU being creub Day La Crumb nineteen unders nine overs to just one push. You saw Wagner and Merrimack both have nineteen unders to twelve overs. Last season, Saint Francis of Pennsylvania seventeen unders so eleven overs, Central Connecticut, Lemoines, Sonill all had sixteen unders to thirteen overs as well. And getting back to that underrate that we saw for Long Island, that was I forget the NEC that was one of the top underrates that he saw in all of college basketballs. These were the only teams that played a higher percentage of their games to the under Rutgers, Southern Ducaine, Vermont, and Marris. So that was very much a case where Long Island they were able to improve a little bit on defense, certainly they left a lot to be desired on offense and cause for a perfect star where you were able to get in a whole bunch of unders. And when it comes to conference games and conference games only, that's where you really were able to make your hay on these unders. It's only one team played more than a forty four point four percent seat of their conference games to the over and they're no longer in the conference. And say care Ard Lamoine ten hundreds to eight overs when it came to conference play. Lots of sevens out there is Stonehill's seven overs nine unders at Saint Francis, Pennsylvania, fairly, Dick consent Central Connecticut. I'll have seven overs to either ten or eleven hundreds apiece. Merrimick Wagner seven overs, twelve hundreds of piece, Long Island six overs, eleven unders. When you got the conference play, you were able to get a whole bunch of slow down. You saw a lot of these teams just not being able to execute their offensive general and a whole bunch of unders. Mean, while some of these teams had a little bit more success to the over non conference play, fairly, Dicketson had nine of their thirteen non conference games go over the total. Central Connecticut they're eleven non conference games, you saw six of them go over as well. In for the NEEC, there's going to be a little bit more travel this year, but unlike a lot of conferences, it's not necessarily super duper spread out. And you notice that the NEEC just as a whole, they were able to really do a nice job but be able to make you some money. Sonill was your main letdown last season. They went eleven to nineteen against the spread. Well, fairly they can say they also went thirteen and seventeen against the spread. But about Leamoynes going seventeen, eleven and one against the spread, Central Connecticut seventeen and twelve, Merrimicks seventeen, thirteen and one. He had lau Go sixteen and thirteen, Saint Francis of Pennsylvania fifteen and thirteen against the spread, sacre Art sixteen and fourteen against the spread, and then Wagner, who did make the NCAA Tournament, came in at fifteen and sixteen against the spread. And if you look at all these teams that in terms of their non conference they were very much pushed under the raidar All but three teams were able to score at least a fifty percent cover rate outside the conference. Wagner was five and seven against the spread outside the conference fairly, Dickinson five and eight against the spread. Well, that is because there was a lot of hype from them making the NCAA Tournament eight season ago, and so on. No. Five and nine against the spread outside of the conference, while Merrimack nine two and one against the spread and non conference play. A lot of that has to do with their very distinct style. Saint Francis of Pennsylvania, they were just catching a whole bunch of points in general, eight and three against the spread and non conference play, Lemoynes seven to three and one against the spread, Central Connecticuts State they went six and five against the spread as well. And I just had a lot of teams that were very pesky as underdogs. Taking points was your friend out there in the NEC as only two teams covered, few of them fifty percent of their games in the role of an underdog. Fairly they can sit with six and twelve against the spread as a dog, Sonill ten and seventeen against the spread as a dog in Saint Francis, Pennsylvania they went thirteen and thirteen in this role. But Lamoyne eleven eight and one against the spread as an underdog, Wagner ten and eight against the spread as an underdog, Central Connecticut nine and four against the spread as an underdog, And obviously Merrimick no longer with us, But how about a whopping seven zero and one against the spread as an underdog. And did think that it caused for some intrigue when it came to the conference results as well, because when it came to conference games out there, Central Connecticut was your top cover team within the conference eleven and seven against the spread. Your worst team was son Ill at six and ten against the spread, So you really didn't have a big giant divide of teams that were just absolutely pulling away from one another. It was very much a case where it was a situation by situation basis, because you had like lu Lemoine go ten and seven and ten and eight against the spread, respectively. Saint Francis of Pennsylvania they were seven to ten against the spread within the conference, Merrimick went eight and eleven against the spread within the conference.

Seal.

All the success that they had outside the conference didn't necessarily translate within the conference. How much of this was because you had a lot of teams just hit the road and do a very good job of being able to cover these games when they were on the road. Central Connecticut was twelve and four against the spread on the road, Merrimick they were nine six and one against the spread on the road, Lamoine ten eight and one against the spread on the road. Had quite a few teams that were one game below five hundred on the road, Wagner, Fairley, Dickinson's Sacred Art on that fold, and only every one other than so Noll had us alid time on the road. Son just six and thirteen against the spread on the road, So very interesting conference. And if you're looking at the Chicago State side of things as well, they were a team that they had a whole bunch of triumphs last season as well. Chicago State on the road, they were nine seven and one against the spread, and interestingly, they were a much better road cover team than a homecover team at just two and six against the spread. In for Chicago State, I was alluding to it a little bit with them as well. They were an independent last season, so they don't have any conference splits or anything like that. But for Chicago State last year, in terms of their totals, you saw them at fifteen hundreds to just fourteen overs. So it's gonna be a fun conference to take a look at it. It's a little bit of a new look conference. But a man that does such a great job of being able to follow it that would be Ryan Peters. He does amazing workover at Blue Ribbon Yearbook for the NEEC itself, and we're going to be diving in on all these fun teams with him. Next right here on Costco Seeps with myself Greigiates Peterson now part of the East of family podcast be any Seats Conference for eating umber Back, You love Me, VLAs Zagas for Cousin, Goodsey with myself, Greigates Skeeters and now part of the Decent family of podcasts. This is the NYC Conference Preview edition and it's a little bit of a different any C as the Twitter slash x handle of this man certainly gives O two. One of those teams that just moved out of the NEEC, that be Ryan Peters. He does such a tremendous job taking a look at this conference. He always says, a blue ribbon yearbook right up for this conference. He is a part of the NEC sort of digital team taking a look at this wonderful conference. And I know that you're able to follow on Twitter sishticks at Pioneer Underscore Pride as we know that's a little bit of an ode disacred art who's out there in the Metro Atlantic. But despite that, Ryan's still doing an amazing job taking a look at the NEC. And Ryan, it's always great to get you aboard.

Thank you, it's my pleasure, Greg, thank you for having me.

Thank you for joining me. And we were talking about this a little bit off air fields like every single year that we do this preview, there's always a few different teams out there. And first things first, let's take a look at the team that comes up from the Division two level and Mercy Hurst, because we have seen in the NEEC these teams have come up from the D two level to the Division one level, they've had quite a bit of success right away. For Merciers very much a little bit more of a defense oriented team, I think is very fair. They're coming over from the I believe maybe they call it then ten if I'm not mistaken there, but we've seen quite a few teams from that region be able to come in and have some success right away. And I do think the defense, much like it was for them at the D two level, they're calling card probably going to need to be if they're going to have success in the NEEC right away.

Yeah, they have a veterans squad and they have a really veteran accomplished coach in coach Gary Manchell. He's entering his twenty second season coaching at Mercy Hurst and he's won a lot of games there three hundred and seventy three to be exact. He's gotten to the NPAA tournament in Division two seven times has over five hundred wins if you count his time at Division two ums loll back in the day. He's an accomplished coach. Though, He's going to be able to upscale to the NEC, no problem. And the thing with Mercy Hurst that I like is they have a veteran group. They have some guys coming back six to sixth graduate forward Jeff Plantis is like a really good player. He was an All Conference first team or last year led the team in points, three pointers, made, free throw percentage. I think he's going to scale up. He's a fixed, fixed kind of three level score, very athletic. He'll do just fine in the NEC given his size. And then you got guys like Aiden Reikert, Christian Gamble. They have a couple of transfers coming in from Division three Catholic University, which you know Division three, you wonder how they're going to do in Division one, but it was a Catholic University team that won a ton of games and got to the NCAA tournament. So Tommy Kelly, keep your eye out on him. Jessee Meister Hoth, I'm pronouncing that right. But those are guys who scored double figures for Catholic. They're going to come over and play for mercy Hurst as well. Bernie Blunt is a kid who averaged twenty points a game in Division two. He's now going to be on Gary Manchell's roster. So this mercy Hurst team has some good veterans. And we've seen it before with Lemoyne, with Merrimack, with Stonehill teams that come into the NC if they came in with a lot of veteran presence, a lot of seniors in the team, and they were able to be very successful in their first year, and I would not be surprised if mercy Hurst follows that trend.

And you mentioned Lamoine and IY talk about them quite a bit as well, because they were really able to have a nice year out there in the NEC year number one. They had a nine and seven conference record. But they are going to need to replace some of their top scorers from a season ago. Kem McCleary along with Luke Sutherland, these were their top two scores. They're out, but they do bring back Derek Jones. It was a nice slid guy was able to give the team eight and a half points per contest. They are going to be bringing in a few transfers to be able to help out, as well as bringing back osite for Owens, who was a six and eight little bit of a combo guy that I felt like had a little bit of upside. What do you foresee for year number two out of Lavoyan at the Division one level after year one? I think by all indications it was a rousing success for them.

Yeah, very successful. Nine to seven a conference play. They got to the NEC Tournament's semifinals, lost to Merrimack on the road, No shame in that. And they were the second best offensive team in terms of offensive efficiency last year in eight champions system. So I think this year you mentioned the losses Derek Jones that I think is going to have a major step up. He's a graduate, you know, guard now six to five, great size, you know, he played one upon a time for Talentsend under Pat Scary. So he's a former three star guard and I think he could take that next step. He actually led all NEC players and offensive rating three point shooting, was third in turnover rate during league play last year. It was obviously in a smaller role because you had those other guys like Ky Cleary. You know, kind of taking that possession rate. But I think Derek Jones can make that step you mentioned Osipher Owens. He is a force around the rim, great rim protector, great at finishing around the rim. He'll rim run for you, pick and roll a guy, He's very useful. And then they have some useful newcomers. Zach Teaken comes over from a bad Siena team. But this is a kid who is a good playmaker, you know, on and off the ball. You know he could play a combo for you. Rob Carmati comes from Mercer. He only played forty percent of the team's minutes, but he's, you know, a really good three point shooter, shot thirty nine percent last year from deep I think he could be a double digit scorer. So this is a team that you know, I'm gonna sound like a broken record tonight, because every team I feel like has a chance in this nec greg. But lamoy given their first year success, given the champions offensive friendly system, I think they're going to be a factor here in here. Two.

Absolutely, I do think that for Lamoyne, the losses are going to be a little bit difficult to start with, but really like the upside of Osaifer Owens and think that that's going to be carrying the day for them as joining me on the show. We've got Ryan Peters, who does such great job over at the NEC and he's joing to b rad here on COSTCOSI for the NEC conference preview. And then the newcomer that comes over from the Division one level. They were the lone independent last years. That'd be Chicago State, though they're going to be looking a little bit different than last year because jeral Gillion, who was the coach for them last year, he's actually a lu we'll touch upon them in a few minutes, but Scott Spinelli, he takes over a program on which they don't lose everything from last year. Noble Crawford, DeShawn Jean Charles, these were two guys that were big parts of what they were able to do as Heason Goo. They also bring in Quincy Allen, a former top two to fifty recruit guy that just flat out hasn't been able to stay out there on the floor, but he was over at James Madison and Colorado to begin his career. And how where do you think Chicago State goes from here? After? I think a lot of people are going to chuckle. But last year Chicago State won like thirteen to fourteen games, and I would say that Jared Gillion did won the best coaching jobs at all of college basketball last three years.

Absolutely. I mean they've won over ten games the last two years, which was kind of unheard of a Chicago State. They had like a decade of futility, you know, basically a lot of four I.

Made so much money betting against them for so many years that the fact that they were starting to make you some money was just leaps and bounds better than that.

I mean, it was a safe bet, right because I'm looking at the record now, I mean eight wins, four wins, six wins, three wins. I mean, this is what they were doing for about a decade. But then Jared Gillion came in and just did a tremendous job. You mentioned last year they were thirteen and nineteen without a conference. They pulled off an upset at Northwestern, which was ranked finished the season ranked forty one in ken Pom. To pull off that kind of upset. They also beat Valparaiso on the road in Oregon State, Southern Indiana, they beat FDU on the road. I mean they had some impressive wins last year, so Gillian did a great job and Rod Strickland wanted to bring him onto his staff, and I think that's a terrific hire for Rob. But like I said, we'll talk about LU. For me, Chicago State is a great unknown. I don't know what Scott Spinelli's gonna do. You mentioned Nobel Crawford. I remember him when he was at LU. He just could not stay on the floor for Derek Kellogg at the time. He was just very injured. But he's healthy now. He's an athletic guy who could score anywhere on the floor. I like him, you know, Deshaun Jean Charles has some really good sizes At six eleven, I think he can make that step up. But there's a lot of unknowns in this team. I don't know what kind of system Spinelli's gonna run. I actually haven't even talked to him yet for Blue Room, and I talked to him next week, so i'll learn a little bit more about him. So I can't give you too much knowledge on Chicago State, but they're definitely gonna be a factor. And then you have to wonder if there's gonna be a little home corn advantage for them because ANYC schools are gonna have to fly out there to Chicago. It's gonna be a little bit different for an NEEC school as opposed to taking a bus trip. So watching those home games and seeing how they developed, that's something that could be a trend, you know, come January and February.

The NEEC they are not prone to it as Conference reelnement is taking over all of college basketball right now, and that's going to cause for longer and longer road trips. And we were talking and passing a little bit about LU and Jeral Gillion is now going to be the associate coach to Rod Strickland, who we all remember him back in the day with what he was able to do at the NBA level, and coming along with him as a few friends aj Neil, Brent Davis, who are a big part of what Chicago State did a season ago. They are going to be coming with Gerald Gillion. On top of that, Terrell Strickland obviously one of these sons of Rod Strickland. He's still there. Malchi Davis he comes into the program as well. And I look at LU, they showed some moments of brightness with regards to the defense last year that was non existent two years ago. And I look at LU and I think that this is a team, especially with jeral Gillion and I just talked up how big of a coach he was just a few minutes ago. I think that this is a team that can take a massive step forward this year.

Absolutely. You mentioned Brent Davis. Let's start with him. He played, you know, the last two seasons in Chicago State, really good of fish and defensive minded guard. You know, had the thirty seventh best deal rate in the country last year. So he's going to bring a defensive identity to that perimeter that Rod Strickland greatly needs. And then you know his son, you know Terrell Strickland, who the problem with him is He's always been hurt his entire career, whether it's at James Madison. Lu we missed a bunch of time last year. When he is healthy, his last five games last season he had thirty two assists and had a bunch of steals as well. So he impacts the floor. He's a great four manager, he's quick, he could get the team in transition, and Strickland loves to run up and down the floor. I think The big wildcard here is Malachi Davis. He played at Arizona State, only scored four points at Arizona State last year and then hardly played afterwards. He was a high level recruit, was very accomplished in JUCO before going to Arizona State. So he's the guy who could become potentially a first team All Conference guy. But it's a great, you know unknown at this point, Malchai Davis. We know Brent Davis is gonna be a good player. They have some other pieces to Blake Lander. They just signed from you know, West Los Angeles College. A really good three point shooter. Jamal Fuller comes over from Division two Academy of Art. He was an eighteen point five rebound guy. Well, some of these guys have to step up or some of these guys are improving in Division one level. So it's going to be really interesting to see how Rod Strickland integrates all this. But I know he's really excited about his team, and I think they will take another step up in year three.

Yep, I think so as well. I really liked what I saw towards the defensive side of things with all you last season. I think that bringing Gillian bringing in those Chicago State guys is really going to be able to help them out moving forward. And this team I think is going to be interesting in that Saint Francis of Pennsylvania, they were just really hit by the injury bug last season. But bringing back Bobby Rosenberg, who really was able to flourish through all those injuries last season. He's a guy that I find to be very intriguing. Aaron Talbert along the back court as well, he was able to make some nice inroads. I could see him being a nice double figure scorer. Certainly, it's a bunch that they've lost quite a bit over the last few seasons. But Rob Kermel, he has stuck with this program. He's done a nice job. I'll be able to have an eye for talent and we're Saint Francis and Pennsylvania. Do you think that this is going to be a team that needs to develop its identity a little bit more around the back court this season?

Yeah. I mean last year they had a really young team. They didn't have a single upper classman on that roster, at least a scholarship upper classmen on that roster, So it was a lot of peaks and a lot of valleys, and it's unfortunate for Rob Grimold. They almost kept Eli Wilbourne, you know, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Year, but they lost him to the eleventh hour to the transfer port That's how it goes with the NIL this time of year. So they lose Wilborne, but like you mentioned, they have a lot of veterans coming back. Rosenberger is one of the best glue guys in the NEC. A good three point score makes his teammates better. We'll get in position. Defensively, he's really good. I like Aiden Harris. He's a defensive minded stretch forward. You know, he plays the four for Saint Francis windslor Standing is a high energy guy off the bench. They have Liberius, the big Miles Webb is kind of a wild card with his athleticism. And then you Rob Crimmels has not been a fan in the past with the transfer portal, but he's brought in a couple of guys through the portal this year to kind of make his team a little bit older, a little bit more experience. Watch out for Riley Parker. He played at Counchy's College first two seasons collegiate career from three eighty three percent from the free throw line, one point seven assist to turnover ratio or average fourteen points in five assists. He's going to be a playmaker for this Red Flash squad if he steps up and plays well. And you have other guys freshmen that I know Rob Krimmel's excited about, like Jan Crawford and Victor Payne. I think this team could surprise some people.

Right now.

I'd probably put the middle of the pack, but they certainly have more upside than.

That certainly is. And I do think that for Rob criminl he's doing a great job coaching up these guys. Obviously, you lose Josh Cohen from a few seasons ago, you lose a lot down low, but he's been doing a nice job building that identity a little bit more around the back court. As joining me on the show, we've got one of our good friends at Bord, Ryan Peters, who does such a great job covering the NEC joined to me right here on Soups and Bersonail. Their leap up from the D two level to the D one level hasn't been going quite as planned, but do you like the fact that they do bring in a few guys I think has some upside really like the fact that they bring it. Josh Morgan over at in Carna word was always a solid scorer, was always able to pop it from three part range. I think that that's going to be able to help them out a little bit. A Mere Nesbit is a guy that's coming over from Hampton. I believe that that is the brother of Jordan Nesbit, if I'm not mistaken as well, and with sonilp certainly probably gonna have a few issues on the glasses a lot of teams out there in the NEC does. But very excited for them bringing in some transfers. I think are going to be able to make some great contributions right away.

Yeah, and you know, Chris Crossed, this team last year was ravaged with injuries. I mean they were in November and December, he told me they were. They were practicing like seven eight nine guys in a practice, and you can't really do much when your roster is so depleted. But this year they're finally healthy. They're actually in Italy right now for kind of a you know, international trip, so they're able to practice and have full team practices in the summer so this team you mentioned it, you know, let's get into it. Josh Morgan likes him a lot. Incarnet word. You shot thirty nine percent from two to thirty five percent from three. He's a playmaker and I think he's going to translate up really well to the NC. Chris thinks he's an experience, mature good player, a mere nest bit, you know, came over from Hampton. He has a chance to be really good in the NC. And then they have this point guard from Finland Eno Monton, who played at Temple College junior college. At his Temple College average sixth to fifth a game and shot thirty seven percent from three. He had an assistant turnover ratio of two point six in his first year in junior college. That's a really impressive number. So I think he's the guy who's going to be setting the table for stone Hill and have some veterans coming back. Todd Brock and I really like to take a step up. Shane O'Dell could be a big time score. He was hurt last year. He was one of the casualties of the training room. I think, you know, Stonehill has a chance here. You know, it's going to take a little bit of time to kind of mesh these guys. But I think the fact that doing an international trip, the fact that they'd have been able to practice the summer, is going to be working in Chris Kross's favor going into November.

Yep, you mentioned it. When you're able to take those foreign trips, you get a few more practices that allows you to gain some chemistry. Wouldn't make too much jobs on the results that you get when you play against insert your international team here, but certainly getting those practices, I think that that is going to be big and it's gonna be interesting to see what we get on this bunch because two years ago they were the talk of all of college basketball. Fairly they couldson winning those two games in the NCAA Tournament, including the upset of produced Certainly not the same team now, but Joe Emmanuel is one of the main holdovers from that team, and Jack Castleberry and your number two of coaching up this unit. I felt like in year number one he was able to do a relatively solid job. They've got Terrence Brown back after he was able to give the team right around about seven and a half points per game. Certainly, with fairly they couldson. This has ever biden. The team has been upplauded for their defense, but I do feel like they've got the scoring to be able to get back to more of that middle slash upraft of the NEC.

Yeah, they have the talent. You Joelmannuell mentioned him. He had a great sophomore year, really took a step up. Saw his like turnover efficiency rates go up, you know, exponentially, and he's only going to get better. He's expanding his game with a three point shot. My opinion, he's going to be at minimum a top ten player in this league. He's going to make a second team All Conference, maybe even a first All team conference. Terrence Brown's coming off an appointment on the NEC All Rookie Team last year. He's an impressive looking sophomore who's athletic, get to the baskets, got a little bit of combo in him, so you could give him the ball at times. Jack has these two guys coming in from Jefferson College Division two, Ahmed Barbara Bay and then Bismarck Naya. You know, you have a six to seven Naya and you have the six to three Barbara Bay. You know, they were very accomplished at Jefferson College. Jefferson College I believe went to the NCAA tournament last year. They're both selfless guys. They'll do anything on the floor they could score. They both average double figures in scoring at least five rebounds a game, and they're also really good pastors. So they're going to really make everyone in this FDU lineup gel and that's what Jack Castleburry wants. He's an offensive minded coach. They want to score eighty PLS points a game, and I think they have a pretty good chance to do that.

Yep. I think that they do as well. And when I take a look at this bunch, they might need to reinvent themselves a little bit. As Central Connecticut did such a nice job out there in the NEEC. They were towards the top. And Patrick Sellers, You've been telling me for the last few years by sock Now and Patrick Sellers, and he's done a nice job of working up this Central Connecticut team. But they're going to have to replace quite a few guys from Seasongo. But Jordan Jones being back after he blogged thirteen points, three and a half boards free and alphasis, that's gonna be big and not sure what you think about this man, but I look at DeVante's spotman had a bit of a dip in production last year. I think that he's going to be so key for this team, along with Jay Rodgers coming back after he was limited as well. Even though they lose a lot of their top scores from season ago, I still see the production in the back court for the team to still be one of the best out there in the NC.

Yeah, it all starts with Jordan Jones. He is the engine of the offense. He is the energizer of the defense. He is with the terrific player at second bests history, eleventh best steel rate in league play. She's fifty five percent at the rim despite being you know, maybe six feet tall, you know, on a generous day. And he is just a terrific lightning bug out there for pat Sellers. Like I said, an energizer. And the thing with this roster is they have a bunch of guys who are now in their fourth year in the program, which is so unusual in this day and age and transfer portal in the NIL. You know, Jaden Brown is going to be their starting five. He improved so much as a junior last year averaging eight and five. I think he's going to take another step up. And then they have you know, Abdua Momo, you mentioned Devonte Sweatman, Joe Ostrowski. These are guys who have been in the program with Pat Sellers for four years now. That really sets the floor nice and high for the Blue Devils in my opinion. You know, they can't really go too low because they have all these veterans that just know how Pat Seller's coaches, and it's really going to come down to the newcomers, I think though. You know Jalen mcgone, you know, comes over from Division two East Strasburg University. Was an accomplished player there and he also had a couple of coffee at Riders, so he's played in Division one before when he was a fresh last year average twelve points, three rebounds, two seals a game, thirty nine percent from three. He's kind of a Swiss army Knife, as as Pat likes to call him. They have a lot of guys like Max Fraser comes over from Sienna. He's a really bouncy four to five man who could really compliment Momo and Jaden Brown in that front core. And so I think they're gonna be really good again. I think Pat Sellers has his system in there. They like to run, they like to get out in transition, but defensively they've really improved over sellers first three years, and I think it's only going to get better, especially with Brown and Jordan Jones anchoring that team.

Yep, I'm right there with you. And then when it comes to this team, it's the last team that we have to hit, it would be Wagner. And for Wagner, they lose their top three at a lot of players just out of the fold. They were playing seven guys in their NCAA tournament game a season ago. Yet somehow, some way they win the NEC and now they should be getting a little bit more of a clean bill of belt. DeAndre Howell South was limited just eleven games last season. They're gonna be getting in RJ. Green as well. As he's going to be looking to elevate them. He should be able to do some nice things. Almo Javier, I always say this last name incorrectly es square. He's going to be back after he was able to do a nice job throwing out the ball. The likes of Raheem Moor in company I look at Wagner and after they were so good in conference on the defensive side of things last year, I just can't look at the seam and think anything different. And they should have more depth this year than when they made the NCAA tournament season ago.

Yeah, it's crazy to talk about, right because they did lose their three leading scores, as you mentioned, But they had so many accomplished players who were injured last year that I think are going to have big seasons this year. Like Zire Williams, He's now in his fourth year at Wagner. He's been scratching the surface. He just can't stay healthy. But he's looked great this summer. He's gonna be a great two way player for Donald Copeland. Ramir Moore, you know, had risk surgery wrote last year, but he's just physically really capable, great mid range game, gait, great getting to the rim, very versatile. Defensively mentioned hobbyist Scara close In. The last name is Scara. He's a guy who's stats. She doesn't really pop out at you. He's basically another coach on the floor. He could guard the other team's best perimeter player and shut him down. He really calls out the offense, he could run them and transition. He's a really valuable player for Donald Copeland, even though his stats don't kind of wow you. And then keyanty Lewis has been there for two years, is kind of that steady guy in the middle. So I think Wagner is going to be just fine, especially if some of these guys like Zay Blake, you know, playmaker, the one Churchill Bounds kind of solidifies that five position. He's a little bit skilled. You know, Robert Taylor's coming back from injury, but he's the most one of their most skilled back to the basket players, very athletic, six foot six. And then you mentioned r J. Green. He's kind of a swist army knife. He's to do everything forward. You could even play him as a point for where he's that talented. The only thing he probably can't do his shoot threes. But he's a really good four man in this league, as he proved the LU last year as a sophomore. So I think he's going to kind of just slide right in and be a rotation piece for Donald Copeland. This is a really good, as you mentioned, deep team. It will be interesting to see how these guys come off injuries and come off year where they didn't play very much, but I think they're going to be just fine. Wagner's all about culture started with Dan Hurley, it continued with Bisheer Mason, and now it's continuing again with Donald Copo. He's done a terrific job here at Wagner.

He has done a tremendous job at Wagner, and the torch being passed to him from Bisheer Mason has been very seamless. Wagner has been able to maintain that defensive identity and once again I think that they're going to be towards the top of the NEC. And when it comes to the man that's at the top of covering this great conference, you Sandalone, Ryan, You do such a great job taking a look at the NEC. I know you're going to be taking a look at the Metro ATLA like a little bit more this year as well with your beloved Sacred Art Pioneers over there as well. And I know you just do a great job in general covering this great sport that we all know love of college basketball, so love the good people at home know what's all on tap for you. And how people can follow on on social media and other platforms.

Finishing up my blue ribbon stuff. I've been, you know, writing Blue ribbon previews for the NEC for eight nine years that I lost count, and then a couple of the Max schools as well, Sacrehart and Mari Mack Saint Peter's in Iona, which ironically all four of those Max schools have former NYC coaches in there, which is kind of funny, but yes, so doom blue Ribbon. Then I'll be helping out the NEC once against Winter with kind of freelancing, doing some writing, doing some broadcasting for them. It's a lot of fun. I love it. It's a bummer that's take Aharts leading any speed. But I still love this conference and I can't wait to see, you know how it kind of shakes out with some of these new teams and some of these kind of reshaped rosters.

Absolutely, it's going to be a very interesting conference, a little bit of a new Lott conference, but let's call what it is. There's not too many conferences that are looking the same as they were about five or so years ago. Ryan does a great job rolling with the punches and always lends great insights so big. Thanks Ryan for joining me on Good Seats Now part of the Vson Family Podcasts. And this is the NEEC conference preview engine, So coming back, I give you my protector finished for the NY cover bag. You Love You, Las Vegas were cuts Good Seats with myself, Gregipspeed now for the Vson Family Podcasts. Was great to be able to get Ryan Peters aboard. Even though his beloved Sacred Art Pioneers are no longer in the NEEC, he still does such an amazing job being able to cover this conference. I know that he is very locked in as everything that we're seeing in terms of this conference. On top of that, I know that we are going to be in for an amazing season out here in the NEC with so many new teams coming in and just a little bit of a changing landscape. Ryan did a great job of being able to touch upon all the ins and outs, all the new and all that is staying the same in the NEEC. So big, thanks Sam for joining me right here on Costco sup Style part the Vson Family Podcasts. And now it is that time the podcast. I give you my projector or finish for the NEEC now because I'm doing a conference preview today, anything that happened in terms of news and notes in college basketball on Friday. I will be polishing those up over the weekend. I will also be doing a Patriotly conference preview that'll be up either tomorrow or it'll be up forty eight hours for now. So whichever of the normal podcast comes up next that is not a conference preview, it'll be all polished up there. So I have no fear. We're gonna have everything covered there and got you covered with the guards. Are protector or finish for this fine nec as we are going to be going with number nine in terms of my protector or fish team that has to go up from the D two level to the D one level, and Mercy hurts. It's a little bit rough when you go sub five hundred from a season to go at the D two level and you go up to the D one level. They were allowing only sixty six point two points per game. I think that this is going to be a rock solid team in terms of their defense. I just don't know where the offense is going to be coming from. As Ryan was talking about, they're going to be looking to quite a few guys that are coming over from the Division III level, and dam Blazinski. He's someone that was out there for only nine games last season after he had an injury cut a season short. He'll probably be able to give you some upside. Alden Reichshert, he was someone that was able to give you about twelve point six a half boards. He's going to have some versatility out in an neec that for Merciers, the good news for them is that they are not going to be competing with a bunch of teams that have like towering size or anything like that. So that jumped from the D two level to the D one level. It becomes a little bit easier as a result. But I do think that it is going to be quite a bit of a change and quite a bit of a step up for these guys, and I do think that they're going to be up against it for this upcoming season. So I do have Merciers at number nine of my projector or finished at number eight. I'm going to be going with Saint Francis of Pennsylvania. For Saint Francis, the loss of Josh Cohen from two years ago, I still feel like is being very much felt. We have seen what that guy has been able to do. Now he's going to be playing over at USC But the Red Flash did not have a single season senior on the roster last season. Bobby Rosenberg was really able to take off towards the back half the season last year. He had nine points, about five boards per contest and is one of two returning players that attempted to at least send free throws last season. So that's a bit of a concern. They need to be better at the free throw line, and it was a case where this team was second worst than the country in terms of free throw shooting percentage last year at sixty point six percent. Aaron Talbot is going to be able to help out. He shot about thirty eight percent from three point eight and a half points per contest Aiden Harris, he was a very good three point choter, shot about forty five percent from the outside. But have to be wondering where the rebounding is going to be coming from. I would say six foot eight miles web it's probably going to be able to give you a little bit of rebounding, and towards the back half of the season he was shooting about forty four percent from three five points per contest in the team's final eleven games of the season. But I also let up a lot down low as well, three hundred and fortieth in the country an opponent two point shooting percentage in their home games. I think that Saint Francis just has a lot to work on here in this season, and I do think that it's going to be a bit of a rough go of it for them this year. So as a result, at number eight in terms of my projector or finish going to be going with Saint Francis of Pennsylvania and number seven we're going to be slotting in their Chicago State. I think that just any sort of a coaching change for Chicago State is very difficult. I put Gerald Gillion in that higher regard the fact that he got that Chicago State team the thirteen wins last year, And I've been talking about this on the podcast a lot, like thirteen wins for Chicago State last year was like a national title for Kentucky. Like he did that good of a job for Chicago State. Now he's going to be going over to LU and they're going to be certainly rewarded for hiring him on as their associate coach, but still they do hire from within, with Scott Spinelli taking over the program, and he still maintains a few guys that were there from a seasongo. Deshaun Jean, Charles Noble, Crawford, He's are a pair of guys that were nice impact players for them a season. Goo in Quincy Allen, He's a former top two to fifty recruit. He's got a little bit of upside. I think that he could be able to contribute six point eight, a little bit of a cowboy player that coming out of high school was a top to under recruit, just hasn't been able to say out there on the floor, whether that be at Colerado or James Madison just due to injury gave Spinelli. He was actually the coach's son. Should be able to contribute quite a bit in the back court as well, but they just don't have the depth that they had a season go because quite a few of the Chicago State players that were so good from a seas ago, like the Brent Davises of the world, now they're either going to be at LU or in the case of Wesley Carteret, just transferred elsewhere outside the NEEC as well, So do you think that that's going to be a little bit of an issue. I still think that they're going to be able to generate quite a few turnovers as Jean Charles Sober Crawford. These were two guys that are pretty solid with that regard as well, but also don't have a lot of outside shooting unlike a season goal as well. So do you think that that's going to be a little bit rough for Chicago State? And on top of that, for Chicago State, well, they're going to have a little bit more of an easier time with their home games. With having a lot of teams traveling from the northeast part of the country, They're gonna have the most travel of any team out there in the NEC as well, and I think that that's going to negatively affect them though on the last few years over well, being a independent, they very much are used to the travel aspect of things as well. So number seven in terms of my projector or finished going to be going to Chicago State and number six I go with l Mooye. La moyne does lose so many of those guys like caym cleary, like Luke Sutherland from the season goal, but bringing Echo was site for Owen's Derek Jones. I think that that's going to be able to keep this team relatively competitive. I like aj Danzler who's coming back as well. He was able to have a nice second half of the season last year for a bunch that really was a team that feasted on their home games last season. You could tell that Lemoyne they were very much at home when they were at home. They bring in Robbie Carvedy, who was able to put up about eight points per contest, shot thirty eight and a half percent from three point range over at Mercer last year. Began his career at Notre Dame. You've got Fred's paulaz Vegatist, who's going to be coming over from ug Arlington Georgia Tech, only played eleven games the past two seasons. He can really be a nice big man in this conference because you just don't have a lot of size in this conference. That Will Amiko is going to be coming over from Albany, where he just quite frankly didn't necessarily do a whole lot. But Nate Fouts was able to shoot about thirty nine percent from three, and he was able to give the team about four and a half points per contest. You're going to need to see a little bit of a leap there, and they were three hundred and forty ninth in free throw attempts per offensive play. They need to find a little bit more in terms of getting to the free throw line. They were about three and twenty fourth in the country in terms of percentage of their misshots that they hold in as an offensive rebound. In missing those top scores from Seasgo, I do think it's going to make it difficult for them to be able to duplicate the success that they had from a season ago. So as a result, I do have Leamoyne at number six in terms by a projector or finish at number five. I'm going with stone Hill and stone Hill I have so high because I really do like the pickup of Josh Morgan. Josh Morgan had about eight and a half points per contest on thirty seven a half percent three point shooting in his four years send Incarnate Word Chas Stinson their top returning score from me Siego had about seven points, three and a half rebounds, and he shot about thirty four percent from three point range last year. This team in stone Hill shot three twenty seventh in the country from three point range. Bringing in a mere Nesbit I think should be able to help that out. He was able to shoot about thirty nine percent from three point range a season ago. Alex Base is someone that comes in from I own as well. He was a thirty four and a half percent three point shooter, and shay Odell he had nine points per game and was limited just five games due to injury. Him coming back I think is going to be massive, and I do think that SO and L could be able to fortify themselves after they just could not find a way to be able to put the ball in the basket three n fifty seventh in the country terms of points scored on a per possession basis. Even though they do lose their top rebounders from season Togo, it's not like they were good on the glass last season, so I don't think that there's a lot loss and any seed that once again to call what it is, you really don't have dominant big man play, and I think that's Sonel. With their more small ball lineup, they're going to be able to get to the middle of the conference this year. With what they picked up in the offseason, So I do have so and No. Number five in terms of my projector or finish and number four I'm going to Fairley Dickinson. No. Now, with Fairley Dickinson, this is not the same team that we saw two years ago when they were able to make that run to the NCAA Tournament. I want to win a pair of games. But Joe Emmanuel coming back after he blocked ten and a half points five boards a seal per contest, absolutely big. And Terrence Brown I really like his game. He's able to generate about a seal and a half per game. This team with sperm fifty six an opponent three point shooting percentage at home last year at thirty nine point three percent. They're going to need to work on that just a little bit. But when it comes to Fairley Dickinson, I think that Jack Castleberry is doing a great job with this program and he's really cranked up the temple here. Fifteenth in the country was Fairley Dickinson last year in terms of total possessions per game. Fairley Dickinson as well pick up Jacob warn a six foot ten, big guy that I think is going to be able to do a relatively solid job down low. For this unit. You've got Cameron Tweety. I think he's got a little bit of upside as well. For Tweety, not s a guy that was able to come to the forefront and had like massive performances last year or anything like that, but someone that I see coming in after he was out for the entirety of the two thousand and twenty three to twenty four season. I think that he's going to be able to come back, be able to make a little bit of an impact, and should be able to help the seam up in the back court in my opinion a little bit. As he stands right around about six foot four, do it all sort of player, and I think that that's going to be solid for them. Sometimes the best pickup. Arthur Kay said, we're on your roster, but we're just out the previous season, So Fairley Dickinson, I do have a number four terms of my projector or finish, and number three I'm going with Central Connecticut. Central Connecticut did a very nice job last season, and despite the fact that they are going to be missing three out of their top four scores from a season ago, you still have a few heart and soul pieces, and I really do think the world of Patrick Sellers as a coach. It's going to be all about Jordan Jones to be able to run this offense. He had about three and a half boards, three and a half assist, nearly two seals, thirteen points per contest on thirty four percent three point shooting. And Jay Rodgers was limited just nine games last season. In a small sample size, he was able to give the team about six points three boards per contest. Being able to get him back, I think is going to be absolutely massive, and you're able to couple that with the fact that the Central Connecticut team has done a solid job of just being able to make some shrewd moves. I think is the best way of putting it in the transfer portal while still being able to maintain a lot of their guys from the previous seasons. Like at Joe Ostrowski is going to be back. He should be a nice cog in the back. And I look at Devontae Sweatman. He was only able to give out about two assists four points per contest last season. Two years ago was given out more like two and a half assist per game. Averaging about six half points per contest. I think that that is going to be very big for them. Abdullah Mamu, hopefully I said that correctly. He was able to give the team about four parts per contests out of the bench. I think that he's going to be able to do a pretty rock solid job. And the team was thirty seventh in America points a lot on a perpossession basis on the road last season. I think that they're going to be rock solid once again on the defensive side of things. So I've got Central Connecticut a number three inters of I projector or A Finish told you I was going to be high on this team. Number two of my Projector or Finish is Long Island. And Long Island they pick up Jerald Gillion, who again I thought he did one of the best coaching jobs in America the last few years over at Chicago State. For those that listening to this podcast, you probably made a whole bunch of money faded Chicago State before Jerial o'gillion got there, and Jerald Gillion turned them into a respectable program. He should be able to translate a lot of that to Long Island. Got a pair of guys coming with him and Brent Davis along Aj Mitchell. You add Davis be able to give the team about nine points to steal, shot about thirty four and a half percent from three part range. Neil's a former top THREEUND recruit. He was asking about five points per game off the bench. So not a guy that necessarily dazzled. But Terrell Strickland. He is the son of Rod Strickland, the coach. Three and half assists, seven points at steal and a half per contest. Really like what he's able to bring to the table. Zanny Lee, he comes over from an end. He's a six foot nine guy that shot thirty nine percent from three part range a season ago. They bring him from Pole Community College. Dominic Nelson, who he was a top one under junior college transfer according to JUCO recruiting dot Com absolutely lit it up at the non D one level with nineteen and a half points nearly six poorts per contest. He sees ago and not often that in the NEC you get someone from Arizona. Saint Malchai Davis was at JUCO Recruiting dot Com had him as the number eight junior college transfer in twenty twenty three. This team has talent. They now have some better coaching. They were able to improve defensive a season ago. I think Long Island takes some very big leads this season. I've got them number two towards my projector or finished but at number one, despite the fact that they lose their top three scores from a season ago. I've got Wagner and Wagner I think is going to be deeper this year than they were a season goo. Keep in mind when they made the NCAA Tournament last year, they pretty much had a seven man rotation and they couldn't go to their bench even if they wanted to. Lavierra Squerro, he was able to do a nice job running the offense. He averaged about seven points, four boards, four in emphasis ste and a half per contests, A little bit of a do it all sort of guys that year. Williams, He's able to give you a little bit over as Steel per contest was limited just signed games last season, getting him back, getting back DeAndre Howell South was limited to just eleven games of season ago. That is really going to be able to help them out. You've got Keyante Lewis who was able to give you right around about seven points a little bit over five boards per contest, and in the final fifteen games this season he saw an ice bump up in minutes nine and a half points six sports per contest in those final fifteen games. That is massive. They need to be a little bit better on offense. They were three and fIF eighth in the country. There's a two point cheating percentage is probably not going to cut it. But also bring in R. J. Green who was over at Long Island eight season ago about eight points eight ports per contest and he had ten point three points ten point six sports at one point three steals per game in the final seven games of the season. That's big. Rob Taylor another one of those guys that was banged up limited just eight games last season twenty two games two seasons ago. If you could get a clean bill of help for Wagner, they can really be a force out there on the mid major ranks. And I do think that Wagoner going to be able to take what is a little bit of a new look ANYC conference. So do have Wagner as number one in my projector or finish in the NEC and that will wrap things up for the NEC Conference preview edition right here on Coast co Seeps now part of the Vson family and podcasts.
