One of the great challenges of Australian music is about the join us right here on the radio.
He is indeed advance Joy's third studio album, in our Own Sweet Time is that now and you can catch him in Bustle from November twelve with tickets for that through mos TIC's Good Morning, vance Joy.
Good morning, thanks for having me you.
Currently you have, as my little niece says, the covids.
You've got the covids. How are you feeling.
Got the COVID? I'm feeling fine, Thank you, Thank you. Lisa.
Yeah, you was.
I was a big crook two days ago and I did a test and I woke up this morning feeling pretty good. So it's been a old case but unfortunately it ruled me out of a few things this week.
Yeah, I want to show you missed that Melbourne colling with that big, big day for Neil Dan and her and raising millions of dollars, But you have to pull out of that one.
Yeah. I would have loved to have been there, especially just to just you know, watching the watching the game and it looked like a really special day. And my mate Robbie who I Gotta, I gotta, ended up getting a ticket and he was watching it. He was very happy as a pie supporter, So it would have been fun.
I know, back in the day, you played a few games for Coburg, didn't you.
Who's your Who's your footy team?
My team? Yeah? I played for Coburg and that was the feeder club for the Tigers when I was there for a few years. So I have a soft spot for the Tigers. But I bombed supporter from when.
I got into the Great club theme songs in the history of the AFLVFL A couple of yellow and black enough gotta love that. This our third album. This is personal and a lot of it's about the personnel in your life, right.
Yeah, yeah, I guess yeah, this is probably one of my more personal albums, I'm out of the three, it's it's definitely been inspired by I guess the last couple of years, I was spending a lot of time in Barcelona with my partner, and yeah, I was lucky enough to get over there during you know, after one of the big lockdowns we had in Melbourne, and yeah, it's been. Yeah, I'm happy with the songs and I look listen back to them now, I can see that they really reflect I guess, you know, a good yeah, being in a good place, you know, especially with her and everyone you know in my life.
Really, I think I can speak for women everywhere when I say I think we'd all love to have just one song written about us in our lifetime. This whole album is pretty much about her. What is the most romantic thing she's done for you?
Oh, well, she knows, she's pretty thoughtful. I just you know, it's probably just everyday little things that you just know that someone's kind of whatever, like you know, on your side. But she did. She did get me a lovely birthday present back in twenty twenty skateboard because I went to a skateboarding fans and she got me a skateboard. She designed like the graphic for it, and it came into mail. She got it made. It must have been somewhere in Australia. Yeah, it arrived in the mail and it had like a bunch of stuff, you know, just stuff that I would appreciate. It's like a turtle and these kind of different images on it. But she made that for me. Yeah, it's nice.
They go straight to the poor room, mate, and is the one you never you never ever jump on.
When I if I ever get this house renovated and I have room for a poor room, it'll be in there.
Very nice. It was scratched up trying to be Tony Hawk, but you played. You've had some real highlights throughout your career so far, and it sort of feels in a lot of ways early days for you. But even though you've been through so much, but that fairly recently you've played a huge gig in Toronto. There must be nights like that where you just go how many thousand people are here and has a special feel for you.
Yeah, that was a that was a cool one. That was the end of this maybe six weeks of promotion and touring around North America, and yeah, It was about fifteen thousand people in Toronto and just such a great turnout. It's kind of a nice reminder that there's fans out there and that they you know, we take a bit of a break that they don't really go anywhere, especially because so many people were listening to music over the last few years. So it was a special night for sure. I think we were on our game, you know, we had to pull it out and make it, make it a good one for so many people.
It must be flattering when people want to use your music in TVs and in TV and movies and so on. And Gray's Anatomy used Missing Peace in a recent episode. Have you ever said, oh, no, thank you to anyone that wanted to use any of your songs?
You know, sometimes you do, you do say though, but it's often something like Gray's Anatomy. It's a no brainer. It's like, you know, it's like harmless show and whatever. You know, it's it's entertainment and it's and that scene was really nice and a great opportunity. And there was another one. There was a kid's movie called Stalks about the birds that deliver the babies, and yeah, I think you know that probably got a lot of three to five year old into my song, and so that happens every now and then. I think there's a Netflix show that has one of them on now it's like an Australian rom com anyway, But every now and then you get one that you might just be like, ah, I don't need to be associated with like this brand or be political. Yeah, yeah, some of like that. If it has some it has that kind of band, it's then you can kind of make the call. It's always a bit harder if there's a bit of money on the table, but yeah.
Of course you have to make it. Later this out, we'll catch up with the WI actor call Matt Evans, who was on the Voice and got the scabbard. Now he's on Home and Away. Would you go the other way if someone said, vance, we think you've got the look big of the small screen, would you be chops?
I did? I found out. I think I had some really small ambitions. I was like, maybe I could be like, you know, a little have a little partner TV show, a movie or something, you know, not if anything ever happened, I remember I did, And then I got an email with an opportunity to audition for something and I had to do a self tape with my phone, and I realized very quickly when my mum was reading me the lines how hard it is to be actually saying lines and be convincing as an actor. So I think that dream kind of fell by the wayside pretty quickly.
Wooden as a carry tree, it was.
It was real bad.
Those triple threats destroy, destroy the eved that go viral?
Yes, Well, the third studio album, in Our Own Sweet Time is out now and you can catch fans, as I said in Bustleton November twelve, with tickets for that show through Moshtics fans lovely to chat with you this morning you get.
Will but love me to see you go.
Thank you so much too, Clesy More, Lisa More podcasts soon ninety six.
Well.
Home and Away continues seven o'clock to night on Channel seven. Matt Evans is a twenty five year old w Away actor who plays THEO Paulus on Home and Away and Here is Logi nominated for the Most Popular New Talent.
The awards are on this weekend. Good morning, Matt, mate.
Morning guys, thanks having me well, thanks.
For joining us.
Now you're from w Way Now you're in Summer Bay. Tell us what how that happens? What's what's the process for getting onto a heritage show like Home and Away.
Yeah, there was a bit of a strange process and how I got there. I did the Voice in twenty twenty because I was always a singer first, and basically my agent now, who's in la she saw me on the Voice because she was home for Christmas because the COVID she was watching it, and so she approached me when we started doing some tapes because I've never really done any acting before, and then she got me with my Australian agent and then seven months later I was where I am now. So it was a really crazy fast process where I've got. It's just a very very lucky and very grateful for it.
That is amazing, the way the doors open. I do think of you with Delta spreading her wings around you, mate, did She'll be forever forever? Had that link quite because you're on her team? That's it.
Yeah, the spread spreads and wings around me. That'd be great to him.
Well, Matt, congratulations on the Logan nomination. Have you prepared a speech?
You know what?
Actually I like to just kind of speak off the top of my head. But I have an idea of you know, who I need to thank and want to thank, and so I've kind of crafted it a little bit, but I'm not going to bring a piece of paper up and read off it.
Okay, have you perfected your I'm really happy for the winner. Look just in case.
I'm just it.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, No, I've been practicing in the mirror the first.
Look every actor you know, sort of masters. I'm thrilled to just be nominated now working in the US at some point in the futures. On your two do list, Why is Jason Bateman the main actor you want to work with?
Oh?
Because he's so funny. I'm really like in the acting world, I really admire funny actors, Like I really enjoy comedy, and that's the stuff that I'd really like to do as I've got older. So he's definitely like my go to favorite guy for that sort of stuff. And I really enjoy like Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Goslings a goggling as well, So I just enjoy people who have a bit of humor about them. So, yeah, he's brilliant.
Jason Bateman's even funny on Izak when he's wandering money for drug cartels and burning bodies exactly. I just I don't know who does it. He's just unique. When you're away and you've been away from home a lot, what are the things you miss about beautiful Perth?
The hot weather, the blue skies. I mean, there's like I went there recently to see my family and I just realized how the sky is just blue. There's just no clouds in Perth, which which I missed. But it's just yeah, just nice and hot all the time. Yeah, it's a bit it's very different lifestyle from here to there, but yeah, I do always miss the the calmness and yeah, the weather of per Sure.
So home and away fans are going to see more of your musical chops on the show soon, I understand. But tell us quickly about your failed career as a wedding singer.
Yeah. So when I finished what, I did a degree for music and then I got into to, you know, singing gigs and everything. I was doing wedding singing and I had a music teacher from my high school asked me to do her wedding and so I put it down in my dairy for Sunday, and I was at work on the Saturday teaching music kids. And I was driving home from work and I checked my phone on his miscalls and then she called me and she was like where are you? And I was like, what do you mean? She's like my sister's wedding. And I was like, I remember my heart thinking feeling of that, and I was driving the car and I was like, I just I just went into full action mode and I was like, I'm going to be there, and I just kind of hung up through the phone down and just sped home. And I remember that the Luckily the church was like two minutes from where my house was in Mount Lawley, and so I remember I sped home, sprints up my stairs, just threw all my gear in my car, and then went straight to the venue and I pulled up. I'm pretty sure I parked in the nose stopping zone. And then I ran up the back of the back of the church because I was playing for the signing. So I ran up the back of the church, set everything up, put it all up, and then and then right as they said we're now going to join for the signing, I just like I just in time and I just started playing, and everybody it was like all their next nap. They were like, what is that? I was just and I was up at the back playing in this bright, blural orange T shirt because I came straight from work and so it was literally like the split second I just made it. And after that I was like, I don't think wedding like.
A scene from Four Weddings and a movie, isn't it? That's awesome?
It was pretty wild.
Yeah, maybe an alternative career as a wedding crash it might be better, mate, all of this.
Well, listen, Matt good luck on Sunday night will be We'll be em barracking for you from the wings and home and away continue seven o'clock an art on Channel seven.
Thank you so much man, all this.
At least we've known each other for a long time. Yes, please forgive me for embarrassing you at times. Sometimes embarrassed, sometimes embarrassing in public. Sometimes it's just the stupid things that happened to me.
Okay, what's happening?
So I had to go to Bunnings to get some potting mix for a plant that Laurie wants to pot. Big pot. So I had to get two bags.
So I went to some of those pots of three bags.
Well this might be a free bag of it. I don't want to go back and have the same thing happened. So I go to Bunnings and sub ecod.
Yeah, dangerous car, little bunnies.
Dangerous car pack but pretty busy.
It's a handy, funny it is.
Yeah, it feels like a small bunnies at first. Bigger than you think, bigger.
Than you think, but it is very handy for all that sort of.
It's just it's not Belcata big or you know, like a big but anyway, so I go there and I'm going it's got the outside area. You have to go around the outside, just off thevado, ride behind the fence and you pick up some potting mix. And I got there and I went a bit heavy to pick up two bags and carry all the way to the car. So I go looking for a trolling and I go just around the corner and there are really big trolleys are about a meter and a half long. I went off those.
Ones with the flat bit of the bottom. It was just all flat and the little trolley but just.
Just like a tray. So I grab one of those big ones, So I go around the corner. It seems okay, it's they're a bit tight the wheels. I go and load up load of my potting mix, and I'm going back to the checkout. It takes me about eight minutes to get to the check out because it's got two wheels. One I had a dud one and it was too late to go back and get another one and mess around. So I'm negotiating this thing. You know when people get really bad ankles and they get the joints and they get the bones used. It had two wheels a bit like that, so when it wanted to go in the different direction, it did, but they weren't moving. So I finally, embarrassing dragged the trolley around pretty much with the potting met yeah, which would look pretty funny. So I get to the check out and the checkout girls said look at that, and I go, yeah, oh sorry, the trolley's not going so well. But in that Bunnings, it's really hard to get out when you've got a trolley that's like that.
Doesn't have great big front doors like in Ulu.
It's not a big space there, No, it's not. It's not in a lou it's not like I said, the Bell Catawan or Malaga.
You go out a different door to what you come here.
Oh I didn't because I couldn't get There's a lot of stock around, you know. Yeah, and this thing's harder to control than a fourteen year old halfway through year nine. It was hard work. So I would decided made the executive decision I'm going to reverse this thing out of the entrance. I made some.
Really good I should because that's always fun.
You reckon. I made some new friends and who were trying to come.
In once likes out.
I just stopped and looked at me and didn't say a word, but I knew his eyes were saying idiot. All right, I did a fifteen There's someone at Bunning's right in CV who's got c C TV of me doing your fifteen point turn with this bloody trolley.
They are a big trolley. If it doesn't work.
I finally got out and outside there was another trolley and I changed. I realized someone someone to drag the coals one from the coals, and Oh did the job. But it was one of the fair way to take a coals, wasn't I didn't realize that I got the car. This is a better trolley. Oh it's a cold one, No wonder it was popular. Sorry coals anyway, so did the job. But I was attacked pretty much and harassed by an animate.
When nanimate objects attacked, it's a problem. I have been attacked by a hair dryer. Oh really where it gathered up a whole lot of hair in the end bit that's meant to blow the hot air out.
For some reason, I think it started taking hot air in.
That's awkward.
No one was a hair dryer hanging off their hair.
No, especially if it's starting to melt it.
Yeah, no, not fun.
You guess that Bernie smell the smell of wants to smell that around their hairs?
Dead ants?
Sharon in mirror Booker. What inanimate object attacked you?
I coil it door?
A toilet door.
It's dangerous.
What happened?
I was about eighteen months old. I followed my dad to the toilet. He thought I was still trapped in my highcare. He went to close the door. I put my hand in to stop it, and my thumb came off and I came off. Sorry, my farm came completely off.
Oh were you little?
Oh wow?
Sharon micro surgery, not.
One hundred potential watch surgery. But it was nineteen seventy one and they rantached it. It looks a bit like a toe, but it worked.
It iCable story.
Ye oh, Sharon, anyone.
I don't remember much about it. I can't give any more details.
No, no, I bet you don't.
They would have been blood everywhere and Dad panicking.
He would have been in so much trouble.
Yeah.
Well, my auntie actually picked it up and put it in a grass of whiskey to preserve it.
Slie of whiskey, not the ice blogs that's.
It was my granddad, so there was probably ice blocks in the whiskey.
Very good. I love it that I'm on the rocks.
You can't go.
You'll be surprised, thank you, Sharon. Well, I was not.
You're still using it.
I was not expecting that. That's amazing. No, I'm jam ouch talking about when Nani but objects basically attack. Yeah, we'll let you down. And sometimes I think it's funny how you have a conversation off and with a few swear words involved with something that's not going to an today.
It's not talking about Diane and Morley. What happened yes, handle bars of a bike.
When I was about eleven years old, my brother thought it'd be a great idea to tow me along on my bike. So you had a rope between the two. You were riding along the road. All of a sudden, he goes up on the footpath. I had no time to react. Rope hits telephone pole, handle bars go right into my stomach as I come flowing off. I was windowed for quite a while that.
You were Was it a mould and star?
I don't remember. It's one of the some things you do when you live in the country.
Yes, and those stories always end up in broken teeth, But yours was a stomach how many times.
You don't see it so much these days, but back in the day we would.
You would often see a car getting towed by another, the least bit of rope between the two of them, hoping that they put their foot on the brake at the same time. So, of course it would make sense to do that with your bike.
Of course, And of course he's you know, didn't give me any time to react, of course, no, And I.
Bet he laughed as well, Diane, when you went down buds the window fish.
Yeah, I bet it. Thank you Diane.
By her handlebars Katrina in North Perth, tell us about your husband's Well.
He always fights to mow the lawn, and he went to actually mow his brother's lawn of all lawns, and thought did help him out one day, and I know, he was mowing over a whole lot of he's pretty bad with the lawn mower, and he was mowing over rocks, and anyway, it got to the point where the lawnmower had actually wasn't working apparently, and so he thought he would fix the problem. And he's not good at fixing anything, actually fixing most things. He couldn't fix anything around the house very much without swearing and having a big to do, and then someone's walking away. So anyway, he thought, oh, I can fix a moer. So then he bent down and he put his hand underneath it, and the lawnmower was working again, and four of his fingers is sliced halfway through maybe one of the mother sliced a bit more. And didn't mow lawns for quite a while after that.
His brother had read lawn much.
His brother never got a lawn mode either. He had to take him to hospital but.
He did fix the lawn mood.
He did, he fixed the lawn mode.
Okay, it'd been pretty handy even though they had engined.
Oh wow, ouch ouch, thank you Katrina.
Okay, but I wasn't expecting so many digits to go flying in this conversation.
Dangerous Amanda in Morley, Good morning.
Good morning.
How are you guys going very well? Is it to you that got attacked by an inanimate object?
Yes, it's a piercing gun.
Oh so.
When I was sixteen, I decided to get my second and third hole done back then, because it was a long time ago. He went to the hairdressers. So this young girl, she lined them all up, got it ready, and she stapled the first one. But the gun jammed anyway. She freaked down, left the gun hanging and went to call her mother. So her mother come over and went crazy, held the gun up, went crazy at her, but because the mother was Italian, had to use her hands to talk. So the gun again. I used her hands to scream and carry on at the girl, who's stay over the hold.
But you've got a very long lads, say, that's those big whole things. That was twenty a few years ago. Was born.
Yeah, yeah, but after the first one, I still stayed there and got the second and third one on the other side.
What were you thinking to balance? It had to be either waving her hands around like a grain grocer.
M heavy too, those guns?
Absolutely, I won't lie heavy and dangerous and sharp objects.
Oh that's horrible, Wayne, and Dandella Hello.
Now just oh very good.
Wayne, that's not too big a too big a jump. Wayne. What when were you attacked by an inanimate object?
Okay, about twenty five years ago. I was walking inside my place I was living at and opened the fly screen door, went to walk in, lifted up my right foot, and the fly screen door slammed on the inside of my right ankle right on the corner. Ripped a massive hole in the side of my foot. Over twelve stitches to KOs and I had to drive myself to hospital all aall the while while I am cursing and swearing because I'm mean a lot of pain.
Yeah, big j oh.
Yeah.
But when you get a Frys green that rips a big.
Hole in the side, Yeah, that's full on, You've go next level the.
Amount of blood coming out of there.
I've still got the scar today.
Yeah, I bet you. I've got the scar to tell the story.
I don't like Fisher indoors anymore.
It's a Wayne have a good day.
More Lisa More podcasts soon, ninety six.
The Sure Report, on ninety six Airfam.
The Food Fighters have revealed the all star guest list for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts that are coming up in September. In fact, the Foies and the Hawkins family have together announced the lineup for the first one is at London's Wembley Stadium on September third, and the guests include Liam Gallagher. It's a really interesting mix, by the way, Liam Gallagher, Queens of the Stone, Ager's Josh Holme, Chrissy Hind, Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor. This one I was amazed Rush. I mean that's a bit of a blast from the past. Rush is Geddy Lee and Alex Lifsen, Supergrass, Mark Ronson because he's just a legend, Jane's Addictions, Chris Cheney, The Police is Stuart Copeland and Wolfgang Van Hayleer Oh Wolf. It's comedian Dave Chappellell Chappelle is also on the bill as a special guest and online People have been losing their minds a bit over Dave Schell.
They're you know, making their.
Feelings known with a lot of what the comments.
But I think it's.
Simply a case of Taylor and indeed the whole band a big fans of Chappelle. He's joined them on stage before. He once sang a Radiohead song with them.
Oh did he really?
Okay, many minutes about that, But anyway, that's the Dave Chappelle link.
I think it's that simple.
And the Christianey is not the guy from Living End. As you mentioned James Addiction. He played alongside Taylor in Elana Morrisset's band in the Night.
Yes.
Well, and a lot of people immediately, the ones that weren't complaining about Dave Chappelle said what about Alanas Morrissett. Well, there's a second concert it's taking part in this taking place in la on September twenty seventh, and the guests taking part in that one include most of the above that I just mentioned, as well as Alanas Morris, Sweet, Joan Jet Miley, Cyrus, Gene Simmons, Motley Cruz Nikki, six Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chad.
Smith and Rage Against the machines Brad.
Wilk Okay, what a pair of lineups for those gigs.
It's an incredible and I mean probably especially that second one, because you're getting most of that first list plus all of that on the second.
Won't be a dry eye in either house.
I don't think there will be very emotional.
We're got to love that ninety six afm clezie and Lisa
