Carpooling with Johnny Teague

Join Pastor Johnny Teague on your drive home as he dives into one of Houston's most chilling cold cases. Unpacking his newest book, A Real Estate Nightmare: A Hurricane and a Triple Murder, Dr. Teague takes listeners back to August 19, 1983—the day after Hurricane Alicia battered Southeast Texas. While the city was still recovering from massive blackouts and storm damage, three real estate professionals—Elizabeth Shoemate, Joanne Brown, and Frances Ivey—went to work at the Shoemate & Company office on Memorial Drive and never returned home. In this episode, Dr. Teague recounts the harrowing details of that Friday evening: how a fellow agent unexpectedly discovered the scene, the uncanny silence following the storm, and the shadowy figure spotted inside the office. Reframing these three women not just as victims, but as cherished members of the Houston community, Dr. Teague shares his extensive research and interviews with law enforcement and families in the hope that bringing this 43-year-old mystery back to light will finally lead to justice and closure. Join Pastor Johnny Teague on your ride home as he reflects on what it truly means to be a "helper." Sharing warm, personal stories from his daily 20-plus-mile bike rides through Houston—from observing a 4-year-old in oversized gloves helping his dad in the garden to recalling his own childhood memories of laying rock walls with his father—Johnny explores the beauty of joining in the work we are called to do. He shares a inspiring encounter with a 10-year-old boy sitting along the roadside holding a sign for "Free Bibles" instead of selling lemonade. Just as a father delights in a young child’s simple effort to help, our Heavenly Father is blessed when we join Him in His work here on Earth. Join Pastor Johnny Teague on your ride home for an encouraging episode of Carpooling with Johnny Teague. In this edition, Pastor Johnny tackles a single six-letter word: T-R-O-U-B-L-E. Drawing from the trials of Joshua and Caleb in the Old Testament, quotes from Teddy Roosevelt, and real-life struggles—from marriage and parenting to careers and building a church—Pastor Johnny reminds us that pushing for greatness and pursuing God’s purpose naturally brings trouble. Rather than settling for timid comfort, listeners are challenged to swing for the bleachers, embrace the fight, and trust in the Lord, who has overcome the world.
