WCPT 820 Interview: Mayor Brandon Johnson

View descriptionShare

Richard is joined by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson with our “This Month with the Mayor” segment, on the two-year anniversary of Johnson's mayoral election win.

Johnson discussed Chicago's progress on affordable housing, including the recent ribbon cutting for the construction of new affordable homes in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, and his goal of repopulating the city with working people. He highlighted the recently negotiated (but not yet approved) Chicago Teachers Union contract, which includes smaller class sizes and sustainable community schools. Johnson also criticized President Donald Trump's tariffs, citing their negative impact on working people and trade relationships; highlighted city investments in youth employment and mental health services; touted falling crime rates in Chicago; and emphasized his commitment to community engagement and a "co-governance model, so that more and more people can be activated and can not just be activated but informed in a way that allows them to make great decisions," Johnson said.
