Pilot, a member of the Ho Chunk Nation and chief editor of The Circle since May 2026, discussed his extensive background in native media and education. He highlighted his role in transforming The Circle from a newspaper to a quarterly magazine and increasing its online presence. Pilot emphasized the importance of educating white allies about Native American history and the significance of the Native American vote in changing elections. He also mentioned the positive feedback he recently received at the Minnesota State Fair.

"We did our show live," he told WCPT, "and the feedback that we get -- it's great to hear when you're out in community. And our white allies are with us. They just need to know what we're doing, and we educate everything from powwows to the American Indian movement [that] started here in the Twin Cities; it was an offshoot of the Black Panthers. . . . Especially with the surge that happened here, I just wanted to welcome all our white allies to the fight because we've been fighting for a long, long time."

(She previously authored the book "Punishment Without Crime: How Our Massive Misdemeanor System Traps the Innocent and Makes America More Unequal.") Natapoff also discussed the impact of prosecutorial decisions on individuals' lives and the need for more thoughtful and less adversarial approaches to legal disputes.
