Richard is joined by Kristen Crowell, executive director of Fair Share America and author of this recent Heartland Signal editorial.
Crowell discussed her journey from a concerned parent to a leading advocate for fair taxation. She highlighted the harmful disparity between tax breaks for the wealthy and the lack of investment in essential services like health care and education.
"There's been 40 years of disinvestment under the banner of so-called trickle-down economics," Crowell told WCPT, "where if we give our tax dollars away to rich people, the quote/unquote 'job creators,' it will somehow trickle down to the rest of us. And we know that's not true. This has been a myth and a lie that those of us who are old enough, like myself -- this is something that was told to us and sold to us. And it's ridiculous. We know it in our own lives that this has not happened. We have a enormous wealth gap in this country that should not exist."
Crowell emphasized the success of the millionaires tax in Massachusetts, which has generated nearly $3 billion for infrastructure and education, and called for a populist movement to push for fairer tax policies, urging Americans to get involved and hold their representatives accountable.
