Richard Chew and in-studio guest Karen Byrne are joined by Kevin Schultz, professor of history at UIC and author of “Why Everyone Hates White Liberals (Including White Liberals): A History.”

"The book really tells the story of how liberal went from being this centrist idea that brought Americans together in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, how liberals triumphed over the Great Depression and helped defeat authoritarianism during World War II, and then helped expand the middle class in the 1950s and 1960s. They weren't perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, and I call them out when they make mistakes. But then I start charting the attacks that we've seen since the 1960s, '70s, '80s, and definitely ramping up today, against liberals, and especially white liberals, from multiple quarters in American life."

Schultz said the criticism has come from the left and the Black community but has "really reached its pinnacle of insanity coming from the right, especially since sort of the Rush Limbaugh days in the 1980s, 1990s, through the Fox News days, and up to today's commentaries all over the right, to our current president, who has made a career out of owning the libs, or triggering the libs."
