- Individuals are often sent to third countries where they have no connections 
- There is a significant risk that deported persons will face persecution or torture in receiving countries because those nations may lack the capacity or legal framework to provide asylum or protection  
- Once individuals leave American shores, the Trump administration effectively avoids responsibility for their treatment in foreign jurisdictions
- Many African nations criminalize LGBTQ+ identities, which can lead to extreme violence

"It's like the perfect storm because when this administration took over, it stopped a lot of the funding for the resources that embraced services needed. For example, UNHCR, which is the major protection agency providing services and resources on the continent of Africa, lost an enormous amount of funding, and then there was none of this backup funding for safe shelters and this kind of thing, so I know that they had to reduce their operation to the tune of about 30 percent. And so you're just having a massive humanitarian crisis. It has always been there as a crisis, but now it is so much worse -- HIV clinic services, trauma services. It's just terrible."
