Karen Tallian of the Indiana Democratic Party: WCPT 820 Interview

Richard Chew and in-studio guest Karen Byrne are joined by Karen Tallian, chair of the Indiana Democratic Party. Tallian discussed major midterm election gains in Indiana and the opportunities created by their new statewide and legislative representation.

Here are a few highlights from the conversation:
- Democrats gained 16 Indiana House seats, breaking the 14-year Republican supermajority and coming within a few seats of a House majority. The state Senate added five Democrats, bringing the party's representation in that chamber to 15 members.
- J.D. Ford won a congressional seat in an area that had been in Republican hands for decades. Democrats also won the secretary of state and comptroller offices; Jessica Bailey will become comptroller, an office Democrats have not held in 40 years.
- Karen said the comptroller’s access to state payments could provide visibility into state spending and support scrutiny of past actions.
- One state seat is still under contention.
