Children at R.T. Jones Memorial Library in Canton had the opportunity to sit with Baron, a therapy dog, on Monday afternoon to enhance their reading skills and boost their confidence. Baron, along with his owner Robert Judice, is trained to provide emotional support to people of all ages. The goal of the one-on-one reading sessions is to help children improve their reading ability and comprehension in a supportive environment for 15 minutes. The therapy dog program, consisting of three to seven dogs, visits schools, libraries, hospitals, nursing homes, and businesses across metro Atlanta. Judice emphasized the positive impact of the sessions, as the presence of the dogs helps children relax and become calmer while reading. Parents can schedule 15-minute reading appointments for their kids with Baron, who will be visiting the library twice a month during the summer and once a month thereafter. For more information on the Sequoyah Regional Library system and upcoming dog reading events, visit www.sequoyahregionallibrary.org. The R.T. Jones Memorial Library is situated at 116 Brown Industrial Parkway in Canton.
