STORY 1:   Cherokee Schools Shares New Report on Milestones Performance

On August 15, the Cherokee County School District (CCSD) presented a detailed Georgia Milestones Assessment Performance Review to the school board. The report, available on the district’s website, highlights that CCSD exceeded state averages for the ninth consecutive year, showing improvements or stability in nine tested areas while four areas saw declines. The report includes performance comparisons with nine similar districts and outlines future goals, such as focusing lessons on CCSD Teaching and Learning Standards and developing instructional resources. School Board Members expressed support for the report’s transparency and its role in driving further improvements in student achievement.

STORY 2:  New Traffic Light Coming to Reinhardt College Parkway Intersection

The Canton City Council approved a $702,690 contract with Glosson Enterprises to install a traffic signal at Reinhardt College Parkway and Reservoir Drive. The decision, made in a 5-0 vote with Councilmember Travis Johnson absent, follows a city analysis confirming the need for the signal. The project, funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds and impact fees, is set for completion by summer 2025.

STORY 3:  Cherokee E 9-1-1 Training Program Earns Re-Certification

Cherokee County E 9-1-1 has been awarded the Agency Training Program Certification from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International, recognized at APCO’s Annual Conference and Expo. This certification, first received in 2013 and re-certified every three years, acknowledges the rigorous training standards for dispatchers. This year marks the first certification under new training manager Heather Bradberry. E 9-1-1 Director Shane Bonebrake praised the training team for their commitment to maintaining high standards in dispatcher training, which includes both initial and ongoing education.
