STORY 1: Cherokee County Recycling Center Has New Hours

The Cherokee County Recycling Center on Blaylock Road in Canton has adjusted its operating hours effective January 2. The new hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, opening an hour earlier, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, closing earlier. The change is based on customer activity, aiming to better serve their needs. The drop-off location at 6688 Bells Ferry Road inside Hobgood Park maintains its operating hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. For more information, visitors can check www.cherokeega.com/Recycling-Center.

STORY 2: Ridley and Byrd to Host Town Hall in Woodstock

State Representatives Jordan Ridley and Charlice Byrd, both Republicans from Woodstock, are organizing a town hall meeting on January 13. The event aims to engage with constituents and discuss the upcoming 2024 legislative session. Scheduled to commence at 9 a.m., the town hall will take place at the Tavern at Towne Lake, located at 1003 Towne Lake Hills East, near Woodstock. The representatives are encouraging community members to attend, share their thoughts, and provide feedback on legislative matters.

STORY 3: Good Problem for Georgia General Assembly – What to Do With Surplus

The 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly, starting with a $16 billion budget surplus, is expected to address various long-debated issues. The state's surplus and $11 billion undesignated funds will be a focal point of discussions, determining spending priorities. Governor Brian Kemp proposed accelerating the state income tax cut and additional spending, including one-time pay supplements for state employees and teachers. Legislative Republicans are likely to push for private school vouchers, while tort reform and legalized gambling, particularly sports betting, are also on the agenda. Transportation funding and potential Medicaid expansion discussions are expected during the session.

STORY 5: Canton Mayor Bill Grant and City Councilmembers Sworn in
