Legacy Week - Julie Bowden Sydney Legacy President 28 August 2026

View descriptionShare

Legacy Week 2026, Cheralyn sat down with Legatee Julie Bowden, President of Sydney Legacy Club, last Friday for The Nightline on 2HD Newcastle & across Australia on 2SM Super Radio Network

Julie's own Legacy journey started as a mother's worry. Her son was on his first tour of Afghanistan when she saw a story about Legacy on TV. Her husband Michael had given 29 years to the Navy, so she already knew exactly how much this work matters. She started volunteering with the Parramatta Division. This year, she was elected President of Sydney Legacy Club.

We'll talk about the biggest change in Legacy's 100 year history: an expansion of eligibility that's opened the door to thousands more veteran families. We'll talk about the new Veteran Wellbeing Agency, and what it means to finally see Recommendation 87 of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide acted on. And we'll talk about what it actually looks like, day to day, to keep a hundred year old promise.
