This is the story of Shaybyk, a stray kitten who wandered onto Ukraine’s southern front and became far more than a camp cat. A skilled mouser, an independent explorer, and according to one soldier… family.

Stationed at a checkpoint near the Caspian Sea, this sharp-nosed cat helps officers uncover illegally transported sturgeon, a species pushed dangerously close to extinction by poaching driven by the lucrative caviar trade.

After wandering into the checkpoint as a stray, Rusik was adopted by the team and quickly revealed an extraordinary talent for sniffing out hidden fish cargo in trucks and vehicles. His skills became so impressive that he took over detection duties and became an essential part of the operation.
