With Father’s Day weekend approaching, families across Vancouver Island will have a chance to try fishing without needing a licence, thanks to a province-wide initiative encouraging newcomers to get outdoors. The Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association is hosting a beginner-friendly event on June 20 at Holker Place near the Malahat. We speak with association president Tina Clark about what’s planned, how accessible fishing really is for beginners, and why these community events are designed to get more families casting a line.
