Esquimalt council has voted to reject a proposal from Ocean Networks Canada to install a scientific coastal radar at Saxe Point Park, one of the township’s most prominent and well‑loved public spaces.
Despite staff support and assurances that all costs and liabilities would be covered, council voted overwhelmingly against the project, citing concerns about visual impact and the protection of parkland.
Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins joins Josh and Jade to explain why council drew that line, how the decision was made, and what they hope to see when Ocean Networks Canada returns to council with an updated proposal.
