Esquimalt Fire Hall project on track for early 2027 opening

We spoke with the founder of One with Nature Survival and Bushcraft School a few months ago about his pitch to do wilderness survival education on a patch of crown land in and around East Sooke Park. His proposal generated considerable backlash in the local community and now the province has rejected his application. However, Vitaliy Svetlichnyy tells us there’s still an important story to tell about outdoor education, environmental stewardship and what he’s learned through this process as he looks towards his next endeavours.

A work-zone safety blitz near the Helmcken interchange resulted in 16 distracted-driving tickets and eight tickets for drivers travelling more than 20 km/h over the posted construction-zone speed limit, among other infractions. Road Safety at Work Program Director Trace Acres joins Josh & Jade to discuss the results, the risks facing roadside workers, and why drivers need to slow down and pay attention in work zones.
