Environment and Climate Change Canada is rolling out a new hybrid weather forecasting model combining traditional physics‑based forecasting with AI — effectively extending the range of reliable forecasts by 12 to 24 hours.

Beauregard explains how the system uses AI to guide large‑scale weather patterns while traditional models fill in critical details like terrain and local impacts, resulting in more accurate information for meteorologists, earlier confidence in major weather events, and improved warning lead times — all while keeping humans firmly in control of the forecast.
