Jimmy McGlynn - A Traumatic Brain Injury, Broken Back, and giving up alcohol

View descriptionShare

As a child, Jimmy McGlynn’s mother said he had “a lot of character”, but his aunt said he needed a flogging. He wasn’t a naughty kid though, just full of energy that couldn’t be contained within a classroom. So, even though he excelled at school, at the end of year 10 he headed up north to start working on cattle stations.

In the years that followed Jimmy progressed through the ranks to leadership roles, even winning the Territory’s Best Ringer competition.

But, ultimately his journey would be marked by 2 significant accidents – a traumatic brain injury, and a broken back. In this episode, Jimmy shares the stories of those two accidents which occurred almost exactly 10 years apart.

We also discuss the cattle industry’s attitude towards work health and safety, the culture around alcohol, and taking on responsibility at a young age.
