My guest today is local Artist Claire Tozer. She is a finalist in the Dobell Drawing Prize #22, which is currently on a regional tour of NSW. This free art exhibition is currently showing at Gosford Regional Gallery until the 5th of June, and I highly recommend you have a visit, as it is a great exhibition. Claire's work for the Dobell exhibition is called Bouddi Trail and Claire finds a lot of inspiration for her work living on the Central Coast. Today you will find out about a life-changing event which had a significant effect on her art life, and she shares about the importance of focusing on the small things in life. After tragedy she found a new perspective, which now influences her art work. In today's episode you will find out why Claire hides one word in many of her art pieces. Claire has recently had a solo exhibition at Rochfort Gallery, which can be viewed online https://rochfortgallery.com/artist/claire-tozer-3782

This Dobell Drawing Prize #22 exhibition is presented by the National Art School in Sydney and is a touring exhibition which showcases a selection of 44 finalists’ work from the 2021 Prize. It includes Euan Macleod’s winning work, chosen by guest judge and acclaimed artist Lucy Culliton. Presenting a range of material approaches – from animation, collage and paper weaving, to charcoal, ink and watercolour – the exhibition demonstrates the vitality and scope of contemporary Australian drawing.
Four Central Coast are artists included in this exhibition of Dobell Drawing Prize finalists; Maree Azzorpardi, Minka Gillian, Claire Tozer and Leonardo Uribe.
The Dobell Drawing Prize is an unparalleled celebration of drawing technique and innovation. Presented by the National Art School in partnership with the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation, the biennial prize explores the enduring importance of drawing within contemporary art practice.
Entries for the 23rd Dobell Drawing Prize, to be held at NAS Gallery in March 2023, will open in late June 2022.
