The whole world is talking about a new docu-series, Chimp Crazy by HBO. The series largely focuses on Tonya Haddix, a woman who calls herself the Dolly Parton of Chimps, and her relationship with a movie star Chimp, named Tonka, who was featured in films like George of the Jungle.
The series takes you inside the world of private exotic animal ownership as it follows Tonya and her fight to keep her chimps in a legal battle with PETA.
But it's not just Tonya’s actions that have been called into question. Many are also critical of how the documentary was made. Director Eric Goode hired a proxy director to work with the chimp owners so they wouldn't know he was behind the series.
In this 30 minute podcast exclusive BONUS, Carrie & Tommy speak to Tonya Haddix about how she feels about the documentary, and fair to say, she’s not happy with her portrayal.
