Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist, family therapist, and a Principal in the Philadelphia office of Health Management Associates, a national healthcare consulting firm. He is the author or co-author of two books on family caregiving—The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers (Guilford, 2006), AARP Meditations for Caregivers (Da Capo, 2016)--and has written a self-help column for family caregivers for AARP.org since 2014. He has also been a family caregiver for his mother and stepfather with dementia and his father with cancer.
