In this episode Soyini Coke sits down with Jerome Russell, President of H. J. Russell & Company and Russell New Urban Development, LLC, who shares his insights on purpose-driven capitalism. Russell emphasizes the importance of having a mission and purpose in whatever enterprise one is engaged in, centered around social good. He believes that doing good can pay off financially, and that private enterprise has the option to do good by being good. Russell explores the trade-offs and decisions that business owners need to make in order to balance profit and social impact. He also discusses his work in creating opportunities for African American entrepreneurs through the Herman J. Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship.

With more than 25 years of experience in beverage distribution, consumer marketing, banking, construction, and real estate, Jerome Russell also involved in various business and civic pursuits, serving on the board of several organizations such as Citizens Trust Bank, West End CID, Metro Atlanta YMCA, and the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
