Once considered a cheap cut of meat, oxtail has now become so popular in South Africa that demand far outstrips supply and imports are heavily relied on to make up the shortfall. With 70% of South Africa’s oxtail imports coming in from Argentina and due to the restrictions currently placed on meat imported from that country, prices of oxtail have risen sharply over the past few months.
