Professor Renata Schoeman, Head of Healthcare Leadership at Stellenbosch Business School, joined John Maytham to discuss a 2022 King’s College London study on how technology influences attention spans. The study gained renewed attention following a Guardian article highlighting that TED Talks — already designed to be brief — are now getting even shorter, with some popular talks lasting just six minutes. The UK-based research identified four groups: positive multi-screeners who manage information well; stressed tech addicts overwhelmed by digital overload; overloaded sceptics critical of social media; and disengaged individuals largely unaffected by tech pressures.
