Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police recently held a summit to address the ongoing gang-related violence. One of the people addressing the inquiry was Mitchell’s Plain station commander, Brigadier Brian Muller, who stressed that police efforts alone could not dismantle the highly fragmented, heavily armed gang ecosystem without active societal cooperation, social development, and multi-departmental support. He spoke to Lester Kiewit to expand on why he feels this way.
