The footage, filmed at the BP at Winston Linford Motors, shows a surge in demand as motorists and taxi operators lined up for diesel, with several other stations in town reportedly running dry. While it remains unclear whether this is the result of a broader supply constraint or possible withholding within the supply chain, Visser’s on-the-ground observations suggest a pattern emerging locally, with similar reports circulating elsewhere. He tells Lester that taxi drivers indicated this was the only station with diesel available, and his own drive through town confirmed that multiple forecourts had no diesel. The station owner described a chaotic evening, with emergency replenishment from a tanker and a decision taken to stop filling containers. Industry bodies have so far been reluctant to comment publicly, citing concerns about fuelling panic, yet the visible queues and empty pumps point to growing consumer anxiety, with behaviour on the ground suggesting early signs of panic buying.
