Joe Studwell is the acclaimed author of “How Asia Works”, which revealed the key policies behind the meteoric growth of the “Asian tigers.” Backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Omidyar Network, Studwell then shifted his focus towards Africa, paying particular attention to Botswana, Rwanda, Mauritius, and Ethiopia,and expected to find a different approach given the far-reaching impact of colonialism on the continent. Instead, Studwell found that these nations found success by embracing the very same strategies that their Asian counterparts did.
