Is the elusive four-minute mile for women within reach? The current world record for the distance is held by Faith Kipyegon and sits at 4’07,64”, after being set on 21 July 2023 at a Diamond League meeting in Monaco. But to break the four-minute barrier, Kipyegon will need to improve on her best time by 2 seconds a lap when she attempts the feat on June 26. John Maytham speaks to sports scientist Dr Ross Tucker about the possibility of this attempt being successful, considering the training which has gone into it and also the support given by Nike in the form of specially-designed footwear and clothing.
