The African Transformation Movement (ATM) party has put through a proposal for an amendment to our Constitution to change the name of South Africa to the “Republic of Azania”, to recognise the indigenous inhabitants of this country. But according to journalist and commentator Kenneth Mokgatlhe, a former activist with the Pan Africanist Congress which had previously called for the country to be renamed ‘Azania’, there is no actual link between the name and the indigenous people of South Africa. He shares his thoughts with Lester Kiewit.
