New international research looking at teenagers across 43 countries suggests that problematic social media use is linked to poorer mental wellbeing and lower life satisfaction, with the impact felt most strongly among teens from disadvantaged backgrounds. The study points to widening concerns about how digital habits may be reinforcing existing inequalities rather than easing them. Kyle Janse, researcher at the Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change, speaks to Lester Kiewit about what is driving these patterns and what it means for parents, schools and policymakers.
