For many decades the flower sellers at Adderley Street’s Trafalgar Place have been plying their trade, having their businesses handed down the generations. The City of Cape Town now wants to introduce a monthly permit system for them to trade as informal traders, something which has never been required of them before. Lester Kiewit speaks to Karin Lipari of Sisters on Adderley, who has been selling there for over 30 years, and who argues that she and her fellow traders are anything but informal traders.
