Lester Kiewit speaks to Piet de Beer, the principal first violinist with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, whose beloved violin was stolen from the boot of his car in 2022. His violin was then bought by a couple at a flea market who later found out about the theft and contacted him, reuniting him with his missing violin. After reimbursing the couple for their troubles, he then paid the gesture forward by gifting another of his violins to a 16 year old Corban Beukes, who recently performed at Artscape’s Youth Classical Concert.
