The South African Weather Service, in collaboration with LifeSaving South Africa (LSA), the City of Cape Town (CoCT), the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Stellenbosch University (SU), the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON), and the Coastal Marine Applied Research (CMAR) group at the University of Plymouth, have launched the newly-developed Rip Current Hazard Forecast model, which will guide the public and life-saving institutions to identify the occurrence and location of rip currents more accurately.
