The City of Cape Town has just completed an overhaul of the overhead floodlight system at DHL Cape Town Stadium, replacing 360 old floodlights with 1,500 locally produced, energy-efficient LED lights which are also programmable and capable of running full-colour dynamic lighting sequences. The new system will not just dazzle with  exciting light shows but also significantly reduce energy consumption while also  meeting elite international broadcast standards. Lester Kiewit speaks to  Huibré van der Merwe, Head of the Engineering Planning Unit at the City of Cape Town.
