Some suburbs are provided with municipal bins for recyclables, which are then collected by contracted companies who rely on the recyclable waste to generate revenue. But informal waste collectors are now arriving before the trucks and taking their pick of the more valuable items. Lester Kiewit speaks to Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management for the City of Cape Town, to find out if this is causing any problems or whether there is enough to go around.
