This evening a public engagement meeting is being held at Erin Hall, Rondebosch, to explore the recognition of Table Mountain, or Hoerikwaggo, as a legal subject with rights. The gathering starts at 5:30 pm for 6:00 pm and runs until 9:00 pm. Earlier this year, CapeTalk hosted a panel discussion on this very notion, and today John Maytham speaks to Cormac Cullinan, environmental attorney, author, and director of the Wild Law Institute, about how far the initiative has progressed, what it could mean for the Mountain’s protection, and why the Rights of Nature movement is gaining momentum globally.
