The Afrikaans weekly newspaper Vrye Weekblad was founded in the 1980s when South Africa was in a state of emergency, with media heavily censored under PW Botha’s government. It has been revived digitally a number of times over the years, but now the decision has been made to close for good. Lester Kiewit speaks to Max du Preez, Vrye Weekblad Editor-in-Chief, about the decision.
