The Gqeberha High Court has ruled that the Minister of Police and National Director of Public Prosecutions are liable to pay damages for negligence to the family of a man who was murdered by a man who was released on bail. With the 2026 local government elections just a few weeks away, the GroundUp team visited the town of Beaufort West, which has seen ten years of political instability and financial mismanagement; the City of Cape Town will be upgrading the Nyanga Public Transport Interchange soon, including trading areas and other infrastructure.
