Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says it is still too early to judge the effectiveness of the South African National Defence Force deployment, as shootings continue across the Cape Flats despite the intervention. Speaking to Lester Kiewit, Winde pointed to the limited number of troops on the ground and stressed the need for intelligence-led, coordinated operations to curb ongoing gang turf wars. He also raised concerns about the criminal justice system’s ability to convert arrests into convictions, while reflecting on the rising number of cyclist fatalities following the death of Landon Le Grange, calling for greater road safety awareness and enforcement.
