As part of Primedia Cares’ Corporates That Care initiative, Lester Kiewit speaks to A focus on affordable connectivity, education and skills development as it works to create opportunities for young South Africans. They discuss Net Nine Nine’s fibre skills development programme at Mandisa Shiceka School of Specialisation in Kagiso, which introduced Grade 11 learners to fibre technology and practical technical skills. The programme saw 180 learners take part, with 25 receiving certificates for excellence and two outstanding students going on to complete a fully funded, internationally recognised fibre splicing course. They also discuss the potential pathway from the classroom into the telecommunications industry and the importance of giving young people practical skills that can lead to employment.
