Caller Hazel Gubb from Cedar House School in Kenilworth joined Lester Kiewit to talk about the school’s restorative justice program. Hazel explained that restorative practices are not a soft option. “Consequences are very real, but the reality is people become the focus of the system. We focus on the people who were hurt, what harm was done, the impact this has on the greater community and how we can make this better,” she said. Reflecting on the recent Molderton case, she highlighted the importance of including victims in the process, addressing systemic issues, and helping young people understand and change their behaviour. Cedar House’s program shows how schools can balance accountability with care.
