South Africa needs to produce 30 000 artisans per year until 2030 to close the skills gap in the industry. To achieve this, more than 60% high school leavers need to pursue some form of artisanal trades’ studies or apprenticeship. To reach this goal, Allan Gray Makers has launched the Artisans of Mzansi campaign where above and beyond the mentorship and business coaching for the year, winners could also win a cash prize up to R250 000. Pippa Hudson speaks to Seth Mulli, a senior manager at Allan Gray Makers.
