Student Services grant manager Brooke Harris, and Parent Leadership Graduate Lashonda Anderson, joined Byers & Co to talk about the second year for the PLTI (Parent Leadership Training Institute) program.
Participants are offered free leadership training that includes:
· A retreat to develop group communication
· 10 weeks of classes on self and perception of leadership
· 10 weeks on practicing democracy skills
· A community impact project based upon the parent’s personal passions
Learning objectives of PLTI:
· Help parents become the leaders they would like to be for children and families
· Expand the capacity of parents as change agents for the community
· Develop communities of parents within our county that will support one another in successful civic action
· Facilitate systems change for parental involvement in policy and process decisions
· Increase parent-child interactions and improve child outcomes
