KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • What is acting? Acting is storytelling. This is communicating with people through actions so that they can get the information clearly.
    • Key to acting. The key to any action is for people to understand what you want them to understand.
    • How acting is linked to the sale. Storytelling is the key to everything, it's the key to communicating, it's key to acting while sales are selling yourself or your product through communication. You have to be a very good actor to sell your story to the other person in order to sell. You have to communicate very well for you to make a sale because human beings have a visual antenna.
    • How you can be a brilliant actor and sell more. Try not to impress the people in the audience but rather focus on the character that is wanted in that play in order to make more sales.

  • Four stages of learning.
  • The first stage is unconscious incompetence. You don't know what you're doing wrong.
  • Conscious incompetence. You know what you are supposed to do but you can’t do it.
  • Conscious Competence. You know what you are supposed to do and you actually do it.
  • Unconscious Competence. Where you can just do it naturally. You are an expert.

  • What are the critical parts of acting? The ability to communicate a story effectively. The same as sales, if you don’t communicate the information on the product you are to sell effectively, you won’t make any sale.

BEST MOMENTS

  • “Human beings are storytellers, it's our natural state, that's how we communicate with each other.”
  • “We are naturally an animal that can communicate.”
  • “Everyone is an actor.”
  • “What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.”
  • “Don't ever believe that someone is special, that they were born on Mount Olympus with special gifts or anything. They are exactly the same as you.”
  • “Don't overthink things, just focus on what you're doing. Create that big vision but focus on the daily goals and you'll get there.”
  • “People don't buy products they buy people.”

ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Landrover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few.

Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast. In the UK alone 95% of business fail within the first five years and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number.
